Malte Schwind and Émilie Hériteau's adaptation draws on Rabelais' four books, but mainly on Pantagruel and the Quart-Livre. It follows the giant Pantagruel from his birth to his journey with Panurge to the oracle of the Dive Bouteille, retracing a sort of initiatory journey into life.
Through this epic parody, Rabelais examines the deplorable state of his time and relies on friendship, pleasure, and laughter to maintain faith in his contemporaries and in humanity. Rabelais is convinced that any project of emancipation can only arise through joy and the body, and that linguistic invention is its indispensable catalyst.
Rien qu'un peu de moelle is written in Middle French, in a language so earthy and unheard of even in Rabelais's time that Paul Valéry described it as “a foreign language that one would discover one knew in advance.”.
