Balau by serge aimée coulibaly

Serge Aimé Coulibaly is known for his expressive, energetic dance language, which immediately makes bodies and gestures political. Balau in the West African language Dioula refers to a twist of fate, an unexpected event. Five actors from the Münchner Kammerspiele ensemble and three dancers from Faso Danse Theatre form a community of expressive bodily destinies for this evening of dance theater. Beautiful and brutal events happen to them, unexpectedly, here and now in our complex world: they celebrate, lament, weep, hope - Fiston Mwanza Mujila's richly metaphorical and poetic language on their lips.

Serge Aimé Coulibaly has already won over Munich audiences with his celebrated dance performance C la vie and co-directed Les statues rêvent aussi. Vision d'un retour (with Jan-Christoph Gockel). The internationally successful choreographer began his dance career with Alain Platel, and now works and lives between Burkina Faso and Belgium. For Balau, he collaborates for the first time with award-winning Congolese-Austrian author Fiston Mwanza Mujila, who made a name for himself with his novel Tram 83.
